My erotic and masturbation scenes are not vulgar!

My erotic and masturbation scenes are not vulgar!Neil Nitin Mukesh is the first mainstream hero to have done a scene of masturbation in Madhur Bhandarkar’s Jail.

Reliving the highly unconventional moments of on-screen realism Neil says, “Frankly if it was some other director I’d have said no. But knowing the way Madhur depicts explicit sexual scenes I said yes.

We shot the masturbation sequence with 450 other actors on the set with me. All the other inmates are asleep when I do it. Now a lot of it has been cropped off. But we still see the character doing it. There’s just a suggestion of it now.”

A portion of the sequence was voluntarily removed from the film before it was presented to the censor board.

Says Neil, “Honestly, after Madhur and I shot the masturbation sequence we found we had gone too far. It was too explicit. It was just not jelling with Indian concepts of aesthetics. So we decided to knock it off quite a bit by mutual consent. We just wondered if the flow of the narration would be hampered.”

That’s not only sexually explicit sequence Neil has participated in for Jail. “In one sequence I go in the night to the bath and see a boy performing oral sex on another. Their pleasure is interrupted by me, and the boy says, ‘You had to come and spoil the fun.’ While we agreed to remove dialogue the scene of oral sex remains.”

Neil’s colleagues say they would gladly do a nude scene for a role. Ranbir Kapoor already has in Saawariya. But auto- eroticism is going too far.

Neil explains, “My nude or masturbation scenes are not for titillation. It’s a very practical need in the script. My character is in Jail without sex for 2 and 1/2 years. What does he do? He naturally seeks pleasure by himself. In the scene that we shot my character fantasizes about his girlfriend and gets his gratification.”

Comparing the moment to the dramatic poignant and memorable sequence in Alan Parker’s 1979 prison drama Midnight Express where the young prison inmate makes his girlfriend undress from across the glass partition dividing prisoners from visitors Neil sighs, “Oh my God! That was a wonderful moment. But we couldn’t show something like this in Jail.

Even the love-making scene with Mugdha Godse has been so aesthetically shot. Like the love making scene between Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio in Titanic. It became an out-of-the-body experience for the audience.”

Even the censors’ blocking off Neil’s frontal nudity has been taken in the right spirit by the young actor.

“At first I was upset. I realize I am the first Indian actor to show full frontal nudity. But the scene was that of humiliation, not titillation, like the naked parade in Bandit Queen.

Even though I don’t get raped physically Jail is the first Hindi film to show the hero’s emotional rape. We’ve created all the hell inside prison. Audiences will actually see the horror behind the prison walls.”

Mugdha collapses while shooting for Jail

The extreme temperature seems to have taken a toll on the cast and crew of Madhur Bhandarkar’s upcoming film “Jail”, which is being shot in Karjat, a town in Maharashtra.

The film’s leading lady Mugdha Godge (pictured left) fainted on the sets while a couple of crew members suffered extreme dehydration.

Madhur was very concerned about their condition but could not shift the location nor stall the shoot as a huge set has already been constructed. Instead he has decided to have a doctor and an ambulance on location so that any such case can be attended to immediately.

Madhur has also constructed a tent with coolers inside for the crew to stay in during the breaks.

Mugdha confirmed the news about fainting on the sets of “Jail”. She said the conditions on the sets are actually like that of a jail. And with outside temperature boiling too, it is very difficult to shoot. “But it’s a challenge and we will definitely give our best,” she said.

Mugdha Godse is the showstopper of the season

Model-turned-actress Mugdha Godse seems to be the flavour of the season.

Madhur Bhandarkar’s “Fashion” obviously brought her a lot of glory. She has been seen sizzling on the ramps across India as a showstopper for several.

First it was Delhi where she was the showstopper for Satya Paul in a beautiful sari. Then the leggy lady attended the fashion week in Mumbai in a trendy ensemble for Narendra Kumar. She finally wrapped up with a scintillating green gown in Kolkata for designers Gauri and Nainika.

On being asked about her appearances, she said: “I feel the designer’s creation is the real showstopper. It’s a great honour to be chosen by the designer to be the one to bring out the beauty of the ensemble.”

Mugdha is high on Fashion

Life certainly came full circle for Mugdha Godse this week, as the model-turned-actress returned to the ramp on the first day of the Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week.

And her stint in Bollywood seems to have only upped her sizzle quotient. Looking glamorous in a vibrant saree, Mugdha was the talking point of the day. When we caught up with her after the show, the actress said that she was particularly pleased with what she got to wear. “I really love colourful prints and I’m glad that I got to wear a saree for the show. Mujhe iss saree ke rangon ne chaka-chaundh kar diya. And I am also happy about the fact that I got back to the ramp.” To use a cliché, how did it feel? “I was ecstatic. I’d been waiting for this high for a long time. Each time I walk the ramp, I get a high,” she says.

And how special was the ramp walk, post Fashion? “Life has been treating me very well post Fashion. People want to see more of me, they are appreciating my work and I’m feeling nice about it. I have to say that it is double the responsibility for me, though. Walking the ramp after having worked in Fashion was very different. That did give me a high – but of a different kind,” she says.

What was the difference? “Till I was only a model, I used to see actresses being brought in especially for shows, but today, I was the showstopper myself! It was very different and all that I can say is, life can change,” she says. Looking back, did she feel awkward when celebrities were asked to walk the ramp when she was a model? “I used to see showstoppers, but at that point in time, I was just busy doing my own thing. I only wanted to put my head down and work and better myself as a model. But now, I feel very different. Modelling and acting are two very different jobs and they require me to do very different things,” she says.

But getting back to the green room also means that Mugdha’s back amongst her old friends. And she’s very excited about touching base with them again, saying, “I’ve met some of my friends and they were all very happy to see me. In fact, I’m going to attend some parties and catch up with a whole lot of others as well. It’s good to be back!” As for her future plans, Mugdha says that she has other films in the pipeline too. “Filhaal I’m doing Madhur’s Jail and an untitled Ajay Devgan production, which is being directed by Rohit Shetty,” she says.

Mugdha's first day in Jail goes horribly wrong

Madhur Bhandakar’s latest venture finally made a take off yesterday, 12th March, 2009, which unfortunately turned a bit unpleasant on day 1 of the shoot.

It so happened that Neil Nitin and Mugdha kicked off with the first day shoot for Jail in Bandra. The scene had to be an intimate one in a stationary car when the scene required Mugdha to put her head on Neil’s head. Since it was a long shot Madhur and his crew was quite far away from the car.

At that point of time, a group of youngsters saw Mugdha and started whistling and singing songs from Fashion and stuffs. They also passed a few comments on the actors.

Neil at the spur of the moment realized that the group was very coming quite close to the car and took his call that time. He drove the car off to Bandra Reclamation side which was much secluded and where they did not get much of public attention.

However they returned to the same spot and continued with their shoot, a little careful this time. They completed the shot successfully later on. Mugdha did say that she had not shot on the streets of Mumbai during Fashion, so she had no idea that even these things could happen. Madhur hopes he gets a peaceful day tomorrow.

With Jail kick starting with ‘not-so-pleasant-day’, we hope Madhur and his troop get better and ‘peaceful’ moments in the days to come and wish his Jail succeeds like all his other films.

Mughda Godse refuses to be in Roommates

Mughda Godse has refused Jag Mundra's suspense thriller “Roommates” as she was not being paid the price she wants.

The model-turned-actress was approached to play one of the two protagonists in the film but she refused, as price was an issue with her.

After being widely praised for her acting in he debut film, “Fashion”, Mughda feels she is asking for a price she deserves and Jag Mundra is not willing to pay that kind of price for the film.

Mundra has other options. He has short -listed four ladies - Neha Dhupia, Raima Sen, Neetu Chandra and Sonal Chauhan - out of which he will select the two leads.

Also post the terrorist attacks in Mumbai, Pakistani actor Mikaal Zulfikar, has been thrown out of “Roommates”. It seems no Pakistani actors will be allowed in Bollywood anymore.

With his cast undecided, Mundra is definitely stuck just a month prior to “Roommates” going on the floors.

What I want this New Year…

The New Year resolutions of Bollywood celebrities and the gifts they want in the year ahead were rather different from previous times as many were impacted by the 26/11 terror strikes. Tolerance among communities, spending more time with the family and becoming better human beings topped their wish list.

Mugdha Godse (pictured right): My resolution is to voice my opinion and to vote to be a better citizen. And I want to entertain audiences in good films. A great gift for all of us this New Year would be a good leader who can make Mumbai a better city.

Celina Jaitley: My New Year resolution is to work on my shortcomings as a human being. And the one gift that I'd want from my countrymen is not to forget 26/11.

Raveena Tandon: My resolution is not to get complacent but to work towards making a difference to our lives. The gift I want is from everyone to work as one community.

Dia Mirza: I don't save resolutions for the New Year. I believe if there's a need to do something, it should be done immediately. My wish for the New Year is to be part of an informed and motivated government that will ensure our security, peace, health and progress.

Paresh Rawal:
This New Year I want to start yoga and get the great Gujarati writer Madhu Rai to write an exciting play for me.

Boman Irani: I've never made New Year resolutions. Resolutions are surrounded by guilt. I don't need that for the New Year.

Nandana Sen: New Year resolution? To spend as much time as possible with my loved ones. And my gift? Tolerance among people, communities and countries.

Sonu Sood:
My New Year resolution is to start a trust or organisation in my mother's memory to help poor children study as my mother was a professor. And I'd like to get an award for one of my performances in 2008 as my New Year gift.

Aftab Shivdasani:
I don't want to make a New Year resolution and I don't expect any gifts.

Amrita Arora:
My resolution is to be a better person, tolerant and patient. And my gift? Happiness in abundance for me and my loved ones.

Himesh Reshammiya:
My New Year resolution is to deliver the biggest hit of 2009. And the gift I want from god is to be super-creative in whatever I do.

Payal Rohatgi:
My resolution is to be more caring towards my family, as the whole "Bigg Boss" experience and 26/11 attacks made me value them and realise that one can only trust one's family. My one gift? A film with Shah Rukh Khan. Hope god is listening.

Mona Singh:
No particular resolution. Just a list of things that I want to keep doing. As for gifts, unexpected gifts are the sweetest.

Rajeev Khandelwal: My resolution? To be a better citizen and to spread awareness among the youth to make our country the best.

Mugdha becomes a true hippie!!!

Fear not, the promising actress Mugdha Godse hasn't decided to leave Bollywood! It's just that Mugdha is currently homeless!!!

The beautiful actress is redoing her entire house. She was planning to shift to a 5–star hotel as she has handed over the whole house to the workers. But the actress's friends were aghast that she would even contemplate staying in a hotel!!!

They argued with her that even if her family was in Pune, she was to treat their homes as her home.

So currently Mugdha is going through her friends list, and staying at each of her friends house for a day, for the next 15 days!!!

And her luggage? It's constantly with her in her car!!!!

This is what you call – Living life hippie style!!

I took a few film tips from Priyanka: Mughda Godse

Stepping into the world of Bollywood from the world of modeling is not something that hasn't happened before. Although there's a vast difference in both the worlds, it's nothing new for super model Mugdha. Even after entering Bollywood from the world of fashion, she's still a part of 'Fashion'.

Q-Are you nervous or excited about your first release Fashion?
A-Honestly speaking, it's a mixed reaction. There are a lot of things happening inside of me which I am unable to describe. Along with nervousness, there's a feeling of a little fear, happiness and excitement too.

Even though I am enjoying myself, I'm a bit restless too. For the first time I will be seen on the big screen, don't know if the viewers are going to like me or not. Until now all the reports are good but the acting has to be appreciated also.

Q- You believe that in your case Madhur Bhandarkar was able to unearth a brilliant actress out of a model?
A- Absolutely yes, and that's the sign of a great director. He actually dug out all that hidden talent in me which I was completely unaware of. For now, I really hope that I get the opportunity to work with more such directors so that I can discover more of my abilities.

Q – Since you belong to the world of fashion yourself, did it so happen that you got to learn many new things about it through this film?
A - I didn't learn any new things about it because the fashion world has been very keenly studied and observed by Madhur and only then has he made a good film on it.

What I did learn though, was how a director can use his intellect to deal with a given subject in a very neat and beautiful way and present it before the audiences. Also, I learnt how a film is made and what all is to be kept in mind when one decides to make a film.

Q – Did you ever disagree with a scene in the film feeling that it doesn't happen this way in the fashion world?
A – No, this didn't happen at all. In fact, after watching every scene, I reminded myself that all of this had happened to me before.

Being a part of this world, I have lived each and every one of these moments. What I was most happy about was that instead of showing gossiping or cat fights, Madhur has displayed emotions in the right way.

How models feel in their moments of joy and grief has been beautifully presented by him. According to me, this is the special feature of the film.

Q – According to you, your character Janet is quite different from Mugdha. But is there something which happens to be common in both?
A – (laughs) The only similarity is that both of them are models, beautiful ones, that is. Apart from that, Janet, like Mugdha, has a good heart.

Q – Normally, films mirror the society. Do you think the audience could relate to this film?
A – I'm not sure about the audience but the fashion industry will definitely relate to this film. The way the innumerable emotions have been displayed through the medium of imaginary characters, every model who watches this film will surely feel that this has happened to me before. As for the audience, they'll discover the truth about the fashion world.

Q – Most of the time, viewers feel that the fashion world is a glamorous one and that it's out of their reach. Do you think its human aspect could be put forth before them?
A – Oh yes, I'm sure. I feel that not only will the people realize the truth about the fashion world but will also turn sympathetic towards us.

Q – How was the experience of working with Priyanka and Kangana?
A – It was great working with both of them. Initially, I was scared to work with two such beautiful actresses but when I went to the sets; both of them welcomed me with open arms. I feel that acting is just the medium of reacting. Until you haven't mastered it, you can't react. So they helped me to get better a great deal.

Q – Why did you call them beautiful actresses? Don't you feel you are beautiful too?
A – (laughs) No, it's nothing like that. Obviously I find myself beautiful but I also appreciate others' beauty. And they are really beautiful too! I feel that adopting an appreciative attitude towards other people's beauty is good and that everyone should do it.

Q – One of the actresses who worked with you had no idea about the fashion world while the other was a part of it. So did Kangana ever take any tips from you or did Priyanka give you some?
A – I took a few film tips from Priyanka like how to face the camera, etc. during the shooting. Kangana is a brilliant actress so she didn't have to take any tips from me. She'd prepared herself in advance. She's an artist who can easily mould herself easily into any character.

Q – During the shooting of the film, there were many arguments between Priyanka and Kangana regarding the outfits. Did any of this happen to you too?
A – No, this didn't happen with me or with them either. These are just plain rumors. On the contrary, I was surprised to see the organized way in which people were working on the sets. I had often heard that there are many obstacles while making a film but we had none of this here.

Q – You enter Bollywood with this film. Do you want to continue acting or would you rather remain a model?
A – I've already become a small part of Bollywood and my co-stars have by now accepted me. What remains is to see whether the audience likes me or not. I've got quite a number of film offers and I've been giving them full thought.

I would love to be a part of Bollywood but I can't say goodbye to modeling because I am what I am thanks to modeling. I agree that I won't be able to devote as much time to it as I could before but yes, I'd love to walk the ramp sometimes.

Q – Once, you mentioned somewhere that amongst male models, only Milind Soman and Arjun Rampal were your friends. As for the others you said, "The others weren't that great." Why's that?
A – That's because my image of a male model is that of a 'macho man' under which only these two names can fit. These days male models are quite thin, long-haired and metrosexual. They look attractive while they walk the ramp but I personally don't like them much.
